Today was a normal school day for Luke, Jezz, Mel and Joe. However for Ann and Eddie the day started at 6 o'clock on their way to Hillend where they would arrive ahead of the others to reserve a pitch and make camp for the rest.

Yvonne and April followed on later to help. with the rest of us arriving around 9 o'clock to meet them and settle down for the night before the long day to come on Saturday.

Surfing at Llangennith

Getting out the tent at 7 o'clock has a certain freshness about it. The best part is that the water awaits. Our plan to get on the water around an hour before high tide worked out and we hit the surf at the best possible time. the sun was beating down on us however the offshore wind was ever present

The 2-4 foot waves where perfect for the guys to get to know the surf and how to catch and stay on a wave. Everyone was able to catch waves and we stayed on the water for 3 hours. It was good to see everyone having fun surfing and I hope all the spectators who came to watch were suitably impressed with how they got on.

On the way back to the tents we did a bit of dune kayaking with Stuart flying down due to his shiny bottom, Jezz making a spectacular eskimo-sand-roll, Joe getting stuck at the top due to his super sticky hull and Luke having a good run to the bottom to meet Jezz.

After the surf and dune kayaking we all enjoyed a relaxing afternoon. Some went walking some cycling. Others decided that the best thing to do when the weather is lovely is to sleep inside the tent however; I am sure Jezz had a good reason but the sun usually entices me out.

Before dinner we decided a quick surf would be good and we made our way out once again down to the beach. Mel only stayed for a half hour after successfully rolling in the surf to then be struck by a second wave which caused her to swim. The rest of us stayed on the water for another 45 minutes before calling it a day.

Well done to everyone in dealing with the surf and all of you rolled in the surf which can be difficult. Well done to Mel especially as it was her first attempt at a roll outside a swimming pool.

River trip on the Aman and Loughor rivers.

The weather was awful the wind was blowing and the rain was falling, however, undeterred we made our way to the access point to the river Aman at Glanaman. On arriving at the original access point the water was too low. However, after speaking to a local he showed us a more promising entry with three drops.

We started off with a little bump and scrape and the three drops went to plan. We carried on for a while down the river and the support went off. But after about a mile and an hour of bump and scrape and carrying we decide enough was enough and we called the shuttles back to pick us up, still in Glanaman.

This time we travelled to Ammanford. The first entry point we tried was again to low however the second entry point seemed to offer a better access to the river and seemed to be at a good level. This time it was better and we negotiated a couple of small drops and with a little bump and scrape made it through until the river flattened out and started to meander back to Pontardulais where Sarah, Eddie and Ann were waiting to pick us up from under the bridge. During the trip we acquired a new addition to our group. Ducky was rescued from a tree in the river and is now part of the team.

The weather let up in the afternoon enough for Glenn to get to the beach with Ellie and Jake before we all had dinner at the campsite after which Glenn and crew went home.

The weather today took a turn for the even worse. We decided not to venture down to the beach as the very very strong offshore wind was just too dangerous. So we decided to pack up early and leave before the rest of the Bank Holiday traffic decided to hit the roads.

The wind was so Strong while packing up we eventually had to chuck everything in the Car so we could take the tent down that was being attacked so much that it was completely flat and had a broken pole.

We then made our way to Tesco's for Breakfast before our long journey home against strong winds and heavy rain.

Thanks has to go to all the Non-Kayakers who transported people, boats and kit. Also for providing the photos and catering for the appetites of the active hungry kayakers.
